On February 17, 2005, Chinese President Hu Jintao sends a message of condolence to Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on the serious mountain slides in her country. The full text of the message is as follows:

It was with great sorrow that I learned the news that serious mountain slides occurred in your country inflicting severe human and property losses. I, on behalf of the Chinese government and people, would like to express my sincere condolences to Your Excellency, the Philippine government and people as well as the families of the victims.
