| Hu Jintao Expresses Deep Concern about the Safety of Chinese Engineers in Pakistan |

| Late night yesterday, upon learning that three Chinese engineers were shot dead in Balochistan, Pakistan, Chinese President Hu Jintao expressed deep concern about the safety of Chinese engineers in Pakistan and immediately instructed the Chinese Foreign Ministry and Chinese embassy and consulates to require Pakistan to seize the murderers, ensure the safety of Chinese personnel in Pakistan and properly handle the aftermath. Hu also extended deep grief on the death of the victims and sincere condolence to their families. Early morning today, as instructed by President Hu Jintao, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing made an urgent phone call with his Pakistani counterpart Khurshid Kasuri. The Chinese embassy and consulates in Pakistan immediately launched the emergency mechanism and dispatched staffs to the site. Premier Wen Jiabao also made instructions to ensure the safety of Chinese personnel, properly deal with the aftermath and require Pakistan to seize the murderers. |
