Chairman Jia Qinglin of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Great Hall of the People |
On October 26, 2005, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Great Hall of the People.
Jia said that China and Singapore enjoy frequent high-level exchanges, rapid growth of bilateral trade, steady progress of cooperation in various key areas and sound communications and coordination in both international and regional affairs. China and Singapore share extensive mutual interest with great potential and promising prospects of cooperation. China will adhere to the principle of building friendly relationships and partnerships with its neighbors and join hands with Singapore to push for constant progress of bilateral friendly cooperation and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region.
Jia noted that China admires Singapore's adherence to the one-China policy and opposition to "Taiwan independence" and hopes that Singapore continues supporting China's efforts to maintain national sovereignty and territory integrity and realize peaceful reunification.
When introducing the CPPCC to the guest, Jia said that the people diplomacy conducted by the CPPCC is a major component of China's overall diplomatic efforts. The CPPCC is willing to strengthen contacts with the Singaporean Parliament and all sectors of the society to make active contribution to enhancing the friendship between the two peoples and promoting the development of bilateral relations.
Li noted that since the establishment of diplomatic ties Singapore and China have maintained high-level contacts. The mutual understanding gets increasingly deepened and the bilateral relations and economic and trade cooperation as well as exchanges in the cultural area have achieved long-term progress. He expects that his visit will further promote the bilateral cooperation in various fields and boost the development of bilateral relations. The Singaporean government will resolutely pursue the one-China policy and oppose "Taiwan independence". He indicated hope that active exchanges and cooperation can be held between the Singaporean Parliament and the CPPCC.
