On October 26, 2005, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China met with Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in the Great Hall of the People. Wu said that over the past 15 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Singapore the bilateral relations have maintained rapid growth with frequent bilateral exchanges of high-level visit, deepened political mutual trust, remarkable achievements of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and exchanges in such fields as culture and education, constant headways of promoting cooperation in the key areas including high technologies, investment and human resources development and sound coordination and collaboration in both international and regional affairs. China is satisfied with the sound development momentum of China-Singapore relations.
Currently both China and Singapore are committed to economic development, which has created new opportunities for bilateral cooperation, noted Wu. China expects to share the development experiences with Singapore, complement each other with advantages, deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, keep expanding mutual interest and realize common prosperity.
The NPC of China maintains friendly exchanges and cooperation with the Singaporean Parliament, which is a major component of the bilateral relations and plays an important role of enhancing the traditional friendship between the two peoples and promoting bilateral ties. The NPC is willing to work with the Singaporean Parliament to conduct exchanges and cooperation at multiple levels and in various areas according to the consensus reached by both sides in May this year, enhance China-Singapore friendship and push for the comprehensive and in-depth development of bilateral relations and cooperation, added Wu.
Li said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties Singapore-China relations have achieved satisfactory all-round development. Singapore and China hold identical or similar opinions on many issues and under the current situation to deepen the bilateral relations and cooperation is in the interest of both sides. Singapore is willing to further reinforce the cooperation in such areas as economy and trade and investment with China and seek common development. The Singaporean Parliament also expects to carry out exchanges and cooperation with the NPC of China.
