On the afternoon of October 25, 2005, State Councilor Tang Jiaxuan met in Ziguangge, Zhongnanhai with Senegalese Foreign Minister Cheikh Tidiane Gadio.

Tang expressed his congratulations on the resumption of diplomatic ties between China and Senegal after a suspension of 10 years. He said that Senegal is an influential country in Africa and that it is in the fundamental and long-term interest of the county for Senegal to recognize and stick to the one-China policy. It also paves way for China and Senegal to conduct broad cooperation in bilateral and international affairs. It is believed that with joint efforts the bilateral friendly cooperative relations will witness all-round development.

Gadio said both Senegal and China are developing countries and they should work with each other, which is in the interest of both peoples. It is exactly based on this consideration that President Abdoulaye Wade made the correct decision to resume diplomatic ties with China. He hoped that the two countries can conduct cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, trade, culture and so on in a bid to benefit both peoples.
