|On December 27th, the charge d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy Chen Zhihong accompanied by the Deputy Prime Minister Collendavelloo, the Minister of Finance Pravind Jugnauth, the attorney general Yerrigadoo and more than 10 dignitaries visited the Bagatelle dam project.
The event got the national television and several media coverage.
The Deputy Prime Minister Collendavelloo said that the Bagatelle Dam project is representative ofthe friendly cooperative project and that upon completion, will ease the water shortage problem of the Country. He also thanked China for their support and looks forward to the future achievements. The Counsellor Chen hopes that the two sides will work together to ensure the smooth progress of the construction and will make a project follow up for the benefit of the local people.
The project, started in March 2012, is undertaken by the China International Water & Electric Corporation. After the completion of the 60 million cubic meters water storage, the water supply will meet the demand of the capital Port Louis and Highlands; which amounts to approximatively 600,000 citizens. The new Dam will also improve the land irrigation capacity of the area.At present, the dam has begun to store water and is expected to be completed by the end of June 2017.
